The first half of 2026 reminded investors that markets rarely travel in a straight line. The year began with concerns about inflation, interest rates, and geopolitical tensions, leading to a difficult first quarter. However, a powerful rebound in the spring helped many major indexes recover and move back into positive territory.
Despite occasional bouts of volatility, corporate earnings have remained resilient, artificial intelligence-related spending continues to fuel growth expectations, and investors have gradually become more comfortable with a “higher-for-longer” interest-rate environment.
U.S. Equities (Total Return through June 30):
– S&P 500: +9.33% YTD
– Nasdaq Composite: +11.43% YTD
– Dow Jones Industrial Average: +9.46% YTD
Fixed Income:
– Bloomberg U.S. Aggregate Bond Index: +1.03% YTD, as income helped offset interest-rate volatility.
– 10-Year Treasury Yield: 4.45%, remaining elevated but relatively stable during the second quarter.
