Random Acts of Kindness

Starting this April 2022 and through the end of the year, our Random Acts of Kindness program will be expanded to celebrate the people and organizations that make this community strong. Two employees per month will receive $200 each to support the local community.

Employees can choose to utilize the $200 for any Random Act of Kindness they wishone person might surprise a “not-yet friend” with coffee while another may donate the full amount to a non-profit organization in need. Whatever they decide, team members are encouraged to choose what’s meaningful to them.

Clients and business partners are also encouraged to “pay it forward”whether that be monetary or otherwiseto show kindness to their neighbors and pride in the community.

We take our civic responsibilities seriously through what we call “The Bluegrass Way” here at the bank. In fact, two pillars of our mission are “Kindness” and “Go the Extra Mile.” Simply put, we love this community and feel so honored to have the opportunity to celebrate through giving back to the people who continue to support us.

You can follow along with each month’s random act of kindness on Facebook and Instagram. Check out the hashtag #PayItForwardBluegrass to see the latest.

In addition to the extension of the Random Acts of Kindness program, keep an eye out on social media and your email for upcoming community events throughout the rest of the year.

Locally Owned & Operated…Then and Now

Wondering how we got here, 50 years later? The bank has a rich history in Lexington, but the roots of the company go back much earlier. Did you know that the historic Jett Building, where the Downtown location resides today, was built in 1820? However, it wasn’t until 1936 when Charles H. Jett, Jr. purchased the Servel Electrolux Gas Refrigerator franchise & business from his father, Charles H. Jett, Sr., that he began offering financing options to customers.

50 years ago, on April 10, 1972 to be exact, a commercial bank charter was obtained by the Jett family for Bank of the Bluegrass, with eight employees.

From establishing the financing business to shifting focus to certificates of investment, then developing the bank’s financial structure to grow to where we are today, our cornerstone has always been serving the community where we live and work.

Members of the Jett family is still in active management at the bank today. We continue to be an independent community bank committed to uncompromised financial strength and unparalleled client and community service. The rest, as they say, is Bank of the Bluegrass history, which you can read more about here.

Looking Forward to Another 50 Years

If you’re a member of Bank of the Bluegrass, you’ve probably seen our mission before. For you, it means that our ultimate goal is to meet your banking needs while providing you with exceptional personal service.

The core values of the bank center around the adage, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” As a team, we’ve developed guidelines for the company to ensure we’re following our commitment, including honesty, knowing customers by name and maintaining a vast knowledge of products.

Beyond the mission and values, your needs continue to be at the forefront of our growth, ensuring we’re on the cutting edge of technology available to banking customers. You’ll find account management services like a large banking corporation, such as mobile banking and remote deposit capture, convenience services like Apple / Google Pay and Digital Statements, and online support, but we remain your locally-owned partner, making decisions right here in Lexington.

Today, our staff has grown to over 60 employees, and this independent bank is invested in keeping best-in-class technology and customer service for clients like you, for another 50 years and beyond.

To all our customers:  thank you for your support, thank you for your business, and thank you for your trust. Cheers to the next 50 years serving the Lexington community!
